Tiffany Haddish Makes History

Tiffany Haddish made history this weekend by becoming the first African-American Comedienne to host Saturday Night Live. (It should be noted that neither Wanda Sykes nor Whoopi Goldberg has been extended the offer to host the famous New York based comedy sketch show).

After an opening sketch about Ray Moore and Jeff Sessions, Haddish appears, coming out like an Egyptian goddess in the same Alexander McQueen dress she wore to the Girl’s Trip premier. She opens the show with a bang, keeping her jokes fun, personal, and down to earth. Haddish jokes about her outfit repetition among other things, claiming she’s going to wear the dress until she feels as though she’s gotten her money’s worth out of it. Her honesty about fashion culture and her perceived net worth (that she hasn’t seen herself) keeps the monologue feeling more like a chat with a real-life girlfriend more than a pander to an unseen studio audience. Haddish even thanks her social worker from her youth and everyone that paid their taxes during the time that she was in the system, a move that makes her even more real and relatable than she already was.

Tiffany’s spunk and realness adds a new element to the whole night. The cast can be seen holding back laughs at every turn while interacting with Haddish.

Enjoy Haddish's chemistry with Leslie Jones in the next clip!

Talk show host Tamika (Leslie Jones) tries to determine if her guests (Aidy Bryant, Tiffany Haddish) are truly woke.

Haddish's chemistry isn't limited to Jones. Watch her just kitten' around with comedienne Kate McKinnon

Barbara DeDrew (Kate McKinnon) and Claudia (Tiffany Haddish) show off the cats available for adoption as part of the Fall Cat Giveaway.

While it seems late in the game for SNL to still be having diversity "firsts", we're thankful to be graced with the presence of Tiffany Haddish on the show, and we can only hope that the future brings more wonderful and diverse pairings to the small screen on saturday nights.
